LCS Power Rankings Week 5

by | Mar 1, 2020 | 0 comments

With the first half of the split complete, the standings are still closer than ever. 4th through 6th place is only separated by 2 games. Cloud9 managed to get the perfect record throughout the first half of the split. While CLG only picked up 1 win. With all that being said let’s take a look at how our LCS Power Rankings Week 5 turned out.

10. CLG (=)

More of the same for CLG. While they did face the top two teams in the league the lack of wins is starting to hurt. After the first half of the split, it’s safe to assume CLG will not be making playoffs. Something different for CLG this week is the return of the notorious P.O.B. Pobelter came in to replace the struggling Crown in the mid lane. While they did still lose both games Pobelter was a better-looking part of the team. At this point, CLG needs to look towards how they can play better in the summer split.

Predicted record: 10-8 Actual record: 1-9

9. Golden Guardians (-4)

After a rough game 1 against FlyQuest, the 2nd game had to feel terrible. They essentially just got controlled by Ssumday. I think this team can make the playoffs truly. Obviously they have some issues but what team doesn’t this split other than C9. Although after the loss to 100 Thieves is hard not to have them near the bottom.

Predicted record: 3-15 Actual record: 4-6

8. 100 Thieves (=)

The Thieves went (1-1) this past week but looked in a decent position to go (2-0). Sadly they let their lead split away against TSM. What anyone will want to talk about with the Thieves this time around will be Ssumday. He had a huge game against the Golden Guardians, almost winning the game by himself. I like the idea of putting Ssumday on true carries for this team going forward. Even with a (4-6) record, they’re not in the worst spot as they’re still tied for 6th.

Predicted record: 9-9 Actual record: 4-6

7. Team Liquid (+2)

TL still is a big question mark for me. This team on paper should be so good and not much changed from last year either. They did pick up a big win and clean win over Dignitas putting themselves still in the position to make playoffs. Only time will tell if the team can figure out their problems and dominate like they have so many times before.

Predicted record: 13-3 Actual record: 4-6

6. Evil Geniuses (+1)

EG again went (1-1) beating TL while losing to TSM. The win against Team Liquid was huge as it kept them in the 4 way tie for 6t, while also looking like the best team in that tie. They also did play a pretty close game against TSM but the skill gap between the teams was really shown in the later stages of the game through the macro.

Predicted record: 12-6 Actual record: 4-6

5. Dignitas (+1)

Dignitas continues to be confusing to me. They took a win off of Immortals which keeps them tied for 4th. While still getting absolutely handled by Team Liquid who hasn’t look that good all season long. Dig has the potential to be a very dominate team as we saw at the beginning of the split. If they can settle down and not let their emotions fully control their games I think they will be better off.

Predicted record: 5-13. Actual record: 5-5

4. Immortals (-2)

Finally the (0-2) from Immortals. While it may sound bad this is what many people thought would happen to this team just way sooner in the split. Obviously they are still a better team than we thought and still very much deserve their spot near the top of our LCS Power Rankings Week 5. Immortals also did go up against C9 which for everyone seems like a clear loss no matter what. Hopefully, they can get back on the right track this upcoming week.

Predicted record: 3-15 Actual record: 5-5

LCS Power Rankings Week 5 1

3. TSM (+1)

Back on their winning ways. TSM had a nice (2-0) after their rough week against C9 and FlyQuest. I think it’s safe to say TSM is at least in the top 3 of this league. Kobbe has a quietly good week while Broken Blade continues his good play as well. This team all around is just so solid and it’s hard to find big faults for them.

Predicted record: 12-6 Actual record: 6-4

2. FlyQuest (+1)

FlyQuest keeps on proving their worth. Another (2-0) week for them puts them solely in 2nd place. It will be interesting to see this team going forward if they can keep up their good play. Hopefully they can as I like many really like the branding they’ve done for the team.

Predicted record: 7-11. Actual record: 7-3

1. Cloud9 (=)

Well, they got the perfect half on the split then did one better with the (10-0) record. We say it every week but C9 just seems far and away better than any other team in the league. Congrats to them on the (9-0) and we will see if their dominance can keep going and maybe deliver the perfect split.

Predicted record: 11-7. Actual record: 10-0

It just doesn’t seem to be getting any easier for me. The teams between 4th and 9th only being separated by 2 games and with none of them being consistent it’s hard to really place them. I do believe the top 3 teams are pretty set in stone as of now and of course CLG seems to be doomed to end 10th this split. With that being said do you agree with our LCS Power Rankings Week 5? As well as be sure to check out the games live here. Finally don’t forget to check back every Thursday to see how our rankings change throughout the season.
