Oculus Quest 2 Update Adds Native 90Hz & Fitness Tracking

Recently, Facebook announced the Oculus Quest 2 update v23 system software update will start rolling out today. The update includes a native 90Hz refresh rate and a new fitness tracker.

The less-than-stellar refresh rate of the Oculus Quest 2 was one of the major drawbacks of many VR enthusiasts buying it. This update is a game-changer and a huge step forward for the brand new VR headset.

With the addition of the refresh rate update and fitness tracker, Oculus will be adding the ability to purchase gift apps for others later this month.

Keep in mind, the Oculus Quest 2 supported the 90Hz refresh rate for the Home area and some apps like Oculus Browser. However, most games didn’t support it. There was technically a workaround patch to unlock it, but not everyone wanted to go through the trouble of unlocking it. We’re app releieved Oculus decided to make it an official update.

Oculus Move – New Fitness Tracker

The v23 update is introducing the shiny new Oculus Move, a new embedded app for both the Oculus Quest and Oculus Quest 2. Oculus move will track your estimated calories burned based on your activity level. You’ll be able to go in and set daily goals to try and achieve as well as progress updates.

In addition to Oculus Move, the new update will include the ability to gift games and VR apps to other Oculus members. Although this isn’t included yet, we’re eagerly awaiting the ability to troll our friends with new games they have to play with us. When this rolls out, you’ll se the option to “Buy for a Friend”.

The Oculus Quest 2 also just got the ability to cast to a to a PC browser instead of just a Chromecast device. It looks like Oculus is hard at work making the Oculus Quest 2 as good as possible.
