After the massive news that Microsoft Bought Activision For $68.7 Billion it was only a matter of time before Sony made their next move. That move just happens to be Sony Buys Bungie for $3.6 Billion. While nowhere near the same amount of money could the move have just as much impact?

In short likely no, The Microsoft deal was absolutely massive and it shouldn’t be understated. However, the move should still do well for Sony. Not only does it get Sony back in the titles of the very quick-paced media world we live in today, but having Bungie join Sony can’t really be a bad thing. That statement is only made true because of the very upfront talking point that “Bungie will remain an independent and multi-platform studio and publisher.”

Sony buys Bungie

What this means is that while Bungie will have the backing and full collaboration possibilities with Sony, they will still have their own say in what ends up getting made (Hopefully a new ip soon). Often times when we see companies buy smaller studios it hasn’t ended well. Keeping Bungie independent should help that not be the case this time around.

We will definitely look forward to what the Bungie-Sony collaboration may have in store for us and hope it all works out well in the end. To read more about what Head of PlayStation Studios, Hermen Hulst had to say about the news of Sony Buys Bungie check out the official Playstation post here!
