With Bethesda being acquired by Microsoft future Bethesda games could become exclusives for Xbox and PC. This was always an option and likely a large part of why Microsoft wanted to acquire the beloved gaming studio in the first place.
In today’s 3/9 Xbox Wire blog post Phil Spencer, Head of Xbox said, “With the addition of the Bethesda creative teams, gamers should know that Xbox consoles, PC, and Game Pass will be the best place to experience new Bethesda games, including some new titles in the future that will be exclusive to Xbox and PC players,”
What we do know for sure is that when the deal was first announced Spencer said that Xbox would honor Bethesda’s existing terms of agreements with PS5 exclusive games like Deathloop and GhostWire: Tokyo. So it’s safe to assume those games will still be coming and will stay PS5 exclusive. But with future games, the choice of being exclusive or not will be on a “case-by-case basis.”
Good news for PS5 fans is that it is highly unlikely games like The Elder Scrolls, Doom, or Fallout will become exclusives just as the games bring in so much attention from around the entire gaming world. But only time will tell and we know there will at least be some future Bethesda games that will be Xbox and PC exclusive.
