It’s finally here. The legendary Minecraft Ray Tracing has officially launched in Windows 10. It’s been a long time coming.
Minecraft has always had a charming, blocky aesthetic. However, some have argued the graphics weren’t quite their tempo. How the release of the RTX series Nvidia cards, ray tracing has become a huge selling point for these bad boys.
Minecraft has recently released ray tracing on the Windows 10 edition of the game. I have to say, the improvements are remarkable. To me, it almost looks like an entirely new game.
To those of you unfamiliar, ray tacing allows for realstic, physics-based lighting in games that do a great job mimicing natural light. The Nvidia RTX cards have hardware built in to them to allows them to compute ray tracing much more efficient than previous generations.
Right away, you’ll notice the difference in the water, reflections, and overall atmosphere in Minecraft. To put it in perspective, I know people who are buying the RTX 3XXX series cards almost exclusively for Minecraft with ray tracing.
Ray tracing typically has a heavy impact on frame rates, but Nvidia’s DLSS 2.0 will do a great job making sure your frames remain stable.
Minecraft Ray Tracing Requirements
GPU | Frames | Resolution |
RTX 2060 | 60fps | 1920×1080 |
RTX 3080/3090 | 75fps+ | 4k |
If you’re ready to get started, head over to Nvidia’s blog to learn how to enable ray tracing in your game, download custom maps, or update your texture packs to support the sweet new feature.
We’re really excited to see how the Minecraft ray tracing update affects the players and immersion of the overall game.
