Best Upcoming Games of 2021

We here at Gamescoutr love gaming. It’s not only a great way to meet people and become friends, but also a getaway from the real world if only for a little while. After a year like 2020, we definitely are hoping for some quality games in 2021. We have compiled a list of games for you here of games we think are going to be the best upcoming games of 2021. So let’s get right into it!

Multiplatform Games

Far Cry 6

Far Cry 6 is an upcoming first-person shooter game developed by Ubisoft Toronto and was set to be released in February but was postponed due to Covid-19. It’s the sixth game in the Far Cry series and will be on most major platforms such as PS5 and Xbox series S. The playstyle will be much the same as the previous Far Cry games but that’s not a bad thing. The makeshift weapons often make for a fun playthrough and after all, there is a reason the series has been around since 2004.

Roller Champions

Now there is a decent chance you may have never heard of Roller Champions until now. I just learned of the game myself. Roller Champions is going to be a free-to-play sports game. Players will be in a 3v3 third-person showdown to see who can score five points the quickest. Essentially the goal is to skate around the rink at least one time then throw the ball through the goal. This game has the potential to be a really exciting yet still casual game for people of all ages. My fingers are crossed for what Ubisoft really has in store for Roller Champions!

Hogwarts Legacy

From our childhoods, this game comes. Almost all of us grew up with Harry Potter so for many of us this game means a lot. Hogwarts Legacy will be an action role-playing game set in the 1800s. You will play as a student at Hogwarts and will be able to pick your house and attend classes. Just from hearing about it, my first thoughts go to Fire Emblem: Three Houses which was a game I personally loved with the mix of classes and general play.

Resident Evil Village

Resident Evil Village is an upcoming survival horror video game developed and published by Capcom. It will be the 10th major installment in the Resident Evil series, and the direct sequel to Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. Anyone who has played video games knows about Resident Evil. The beloved series hopes to make another great game within its series. RE Village will also be played in first-person again and will surely give you the scare you crave from these games.

With PS5 First Play we got a decent little peek at Resident Evil Village.

Gotham Knights

Another thing I will always have a love for is Batman. Gotham Knights is an upcoming action role-playing video game based on the DC Comics character Batman and his supporting cast developed by WB Games Montréal. The game will feature 4 playable characters Nightwing, Batgirl, Robin, and Red Hood. The map is an open-world Gotham City and can be played solo or with two players in their cooperative multiplayer mode. I for one can’t wait to get my hands on Gotham Knights!

Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2

Bloodlines 2 is an action role-playing game where you play as a human who has been killed and revived as a thinblood vampire. You will have some relatively weak vampiric abilities. The game is primarily first-person but will have a few third-person moments for contextual activities. As you progress through the game you will be able to learn disciplines and later join one of the five Full-blood clans. The game is a sequel to Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines which came out in 2004 so it’s been quite some time since its predecessor. The game was originally set to come out in March of 2020 but we will hopefully be getting in sometime pretty soon in 2021.

Psychonauts 2

With the original and beloved first game Psychonauts coming out all the way back in 2005. The second game was also announced all the way back in 2015 so you can bet everything you have people have been wanting this game for a while now. For those of you that don’t know Psychonauts is a platforming video game and a very fun one at that. I highly recommend going back and playing the first game if you haven’t already. You will control Raz, a newly graduated Psychonaut with powerful psychic abilities that will help you delves into the minds of others. Hopefully, we don’t have to wait too much longer for this beloved series to come back.

GhostWire: Tokyo

While %99 of Tokyo’s population has vanished you must use your array of spectral abilities to fight the paranormal threat and solve the mystery behind the mass disappearance of all the people. The game itself looks gorgeous, from screenshots we have been able to see parts of Tokyo and some of that powerful arsenal. Any fan of action-adventure games should have this on their radar which is why it made it’s way onto our best upcoming games of 2021 list.

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga

I like so many others grew up loving Lego and anything they put out, and the Lego games were no different. The Skywalker Saga will obviously be based around the newer movies, bringing the younger generation of Star Wars fans. Generally, we know what we are getting with Lego games but they never fail to be fun. It’s set to release sometime in early 2021 and we will eagerly await it.

PC

New World

New World is an upcoming massively multiplayer online role-playing game by Amazon Game Studios set to be released in early 2021. For anyone who knows me, I like my MMO’s. New World will be set in the mid-1600s and players will colonize a fictional land modeled after colonial America. With 5 personal attribute skills and a number of trade skills and weapon skills, there will be plenty to do within the game. Another great practice is that the game will not be a monthly payment but a single payment system.

The Outlast Trials

The Outlast Trials is the third game in the Outlast Series and as always is being developed and published by Red Barrels. For those who don’t know, Outlast is a first-person psychological horror survival game. Trials will act as a prequel to the first two games and be set during the Cold War. We expect Trials to bring us the same feel and scares of the first two games and can’t wait to get our hands on it when it finally comes out.

Playstation

Horizon Forbidden West

Horizon Forbidden West is an upcoming action role-playing game developed by Guerrilla Games and set to be released in 2021 for the PS4 and PS5. Assuming you’ve played Horizon Zero Dawn the predecessor to Forbidden West you know why we are anticipating this game! We expect Forbidden West to be just as good as Zero Dawn and are super excited for the change of scenery and Horizon Forbidden West all new machines to spice up the game.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart

You would be hard-pressed to find someone who hasn’t heard of Ratchet & Clank, a truly timeless game that ranges all the way back to 2002. In Rift Apart Ratchet & Clank will travel across multiple worlds and realities to stop an evil Emperor from trying to exterminate organic life in all universes. The third-person shooter/ platforming game is great for all ages and is always fun to play with your friends.

Xbox

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.2

I personally love horror games. So to have an open-world first-person shooter with horror elements built into the game gives me joy. While I never played S.T.A.L.K.E.R both the screenshots and general description of this game get me very excited. The developers are also claiming it’s one of the biggest open-worlds to date giving you plenty to explore. Your choices throughout the game will also influence both short-term consequences and global outcomes. While there is no release date set it is highly likely we will see the game in 2021.

Scorn

Well, you can’t say I didn’t warn you with the last one. Another first-person shooter horror game makes our best upcoming games of 2021 list. Scorn does have quite a different graphical style than S.T.A.L.K.E.R.2 giving off kind of a Doom vibe. The game still looks great and should have some fun gameplay. Scorn is supposed to be really immersive and has some cool features such as Full body awareness and Inventory and ammo management to help keep the immersion. Overall the game should be a ton of fun if you’re into Horror games.
