Niantic was shot into stardom with the hit game Pokémon GO becoming massively popular overnight. Niantic then went on to release Pikmin Bloom another AR game, while Pikmin Bloom definitely has some upside Niantic has struggled to reach the high highs they once had. With that being said Niantic is hoping their new original game Peridot can get them back to the top!
Peridot is described as a “real-world adventure pet game” by Niantic themselves and will see players nurture their very own AR companions. Those companions are naturally called Peridots and your job is to raise them into adulthood while fighting off the extinction of the species.
Peridot seems to put a lot of focus on the breeding and conservation aspects of the animals. The Peridots themselves will come in all different shapes, sizes, and colors while being based on real and fictional animals. Niantic gave examples of cheetahs, dragons, and unicorns but also mentioned entirely original creations as well.
While there is no set date of release as of now the FAQ on the Peridot website says the developer plans to soft launch a beta in specifics areas that are unstated as of now. We expect the beta to follow in Pokémon GO’s footsteps by having the beta available in places such as Japan, Australia, New Zealand, and the US. Either way, we are excited about Niantic’s new original game and can’t wait to see what magical gameplay it entails!
