Microsoft is one among many companies in talks to buy Discord. Bloomberg reported Monday that the deal was likely over $10 Billion. The deal’s full details haven’t been disclosed as they are still in negotiations but I find it unlikely Microsoft will let any other company out-bid them.
Discord launched in 2015 to much appreciation from gamers. Many companies have done their best to make a discord-like product themselves with Epic Games even looking to create their “parties” later this year. Discord is also not only used by gamers. The fact that Discord is reaching other user bases added alongside the fact that gaming as a whole has taken off more than ever in large part to the pandemic, has a lot to do with why we see Microsoft looking to buy Discord.
We love seeing the gaming world and its products grow and even use Discord all the time. It will be interesting to see who does end up with ownership of Discord although like I said I would find it unlikely that Microsoft doesn’t end up winning the bidding. We will do our best to keep updated with the full details of the deal and share anything we know!
