VR MMOs have always been the dream of VR enthusiasts since the inception of VR. I mean, who wouldn’t want to run around in a virtual reality world forging your own weapons, fighting life-sized monsters, and actually casting spells? Sign me up.
Because of the technical requirements, it takes for a VR MMO, we haven’t seen too many successful ones yet. We expect this to change soon with some exciting new titles getting ready to make their way to a VR headset near you.
A Township Tale
Although A Township Tale has already been released, this title deserves some recognition. Boasting over 2.3k 4+ star reviews on Oculus, it’s fair to say this game has something good going for it.
You’ll be able to explore and craft in a survival-style open-world VR MMO. There are plenty of skills you can level up including blacksmithing, mining, woodcutting, and more.
A mysterious threat approaches and the players are tasked with uncovering the forgotten treasures of the realm.
The graphics look clean and the gameplay looks very smooth. For anyone looking for an already established game, this might be your go-to.
OrbusVR: Reborn
Orbus has been around since May 2019 but has received many updates since its release. It features a welcoming, friendly community that will help you get started in the game and show you the ropes.
Orbus has some pretty impressive features:
- 8 playable classes
- fishing, crafting, and artificing
- World PvP & Battlegrounds
- 5-player dungeons & 10-player raids
There’s a lot to do in OrbusVR. The graphics are simple yet smooth and is available on both the Rift and Quest.
Ilysia
Ilysia is an ambitious VR MMO that had a very successful Kickstarter in October 2020. The game recently went into Alpha a couple of months ago.
In Ilysia, you will be able to traverse a large open world and explore dungeons, caves, and huge outdoor cities.
There is an intricate cave system and free-climbing system that will create some awesome cave diving runs. Players will discover secrets and treasures in each area and unlock unique armors, weapons, and items.
One super interesting aspect of Ilysia is its caravan system. Each player will gain access to a “caravan,” a unique spot in the game world where only they can alter and make a home.

Zenith
As the most anticipated VR MMO on the list, Zenith is a thrilling JRPG MMO coming to the Quest, Rift, PSVR, and Steam in 2021. Zenith will feature a breathtaking open world with vivid colors and surprisingly good graphics.
The game also features fun action-style combat that will benefit from the best parts of VR and its unique mechanics.
You’ll also be able to climb up any surface and glide to any destination. How cool does that sound?
Not convinced yet? Zenith will feature public events and procedural quests that offer a unique play session every time. It also boasts advanced social features that let you form parties with strangers or friends.
There will be multiple classes at launch including the Blade Master and Essence Mage. We’re excited to see them add more classes as the game develops.
